Does TuneUP Keep Logs? Everything We Track (And What We Don’t)
Does TuneUP keep logs? Here is a transparent look at exactly what data we track to crush bugs, what we completely ignore, and how our privacy features work.
Why Do We Keep Logs? Because We Love Trees.
We love that sweet, sweet oxygen that boosts our brains to make TuneUP better. But you know what else we need to keep the lights on? Money. (Standard startup reality check).
When people hear the word "logs," they usually panic. But let’s clear the air: TuneUP isn’t just another data-harvesting tool wearing a trench coat pretending to be a "cleaner." (We are not just a cleaner at all but that’s something we need to talk later) We don’t sell your data to brokers. We only look at logs to understand how you interact with the app, see which features are crowd favorites, and figure out where to focus our development energy.
Not enough reassurance? Let’s dive into the juicy details.

What Do We Log?
We collect basic data in two different ways: when you visit our website, and when you run the TuneUP app.
1. When You Visit the Website
You give us some info, we give you some info back—that’s just how basic web architecture works.
- Account Details: We save your username (or Name/Surname), email, and password so you can actually log into your account. (If you don’t have one yet... what are you waiting for?).
- IP Address: Sounds spooky, but it’s standard networking. Your browser literally needs it to talk to our servers.
- Analytics: We look at when you visit and which pages you view to understand what our users care about most. (And yes, to see if you’re actually reading this or just scrolling for the memes).
2. When You Use the TuneUP App
This is where things get a little more interesting for our privacy-conscious users. Here is exactly what we see:
- TuneUP Version: We need to make sure you aren't running an ancient, buggy build. Since TuneUP requires elevated privileges to maintain your system, keeping it updated is crucial for your PC's security. We patch fast, you update fast. Teamwork “makes the dreams work”
- Device & Username: This helps us map your active license. Why do we use this instead of just your IP address? Because your IP changes every time you switch Wi-Fi, but your hardware doesn’t. We use this to keep you securely signed in so you don’t have to deal with annoying login prompts every single day.
- IP Address (Again?): Yes, but only to map your approximate location (down to the city level). Don't worry, we aren't going to pull a Valve and send a strike team to your house if something looks off. It's just for fraud prevention and geoblocking.
- App Timestamps & Cleaned Bytes: We track app startup, close and minimize times. This is the real telemetry that helps us understand app performance. Unlike some competitors, we don't track every single click inside the app or harvest your browsing history. We also log the total megabytes/gigabytes cleaned—this is the only metadata we collect about your files.
- System Specifications: Windows version, installation path, and basic hardware info. When bugs inevitably rise (and they will), knowing the hardware class helps us crush them without playing a guessing game.
- Account Status: Free vs. Pro. Self-explanatory—gotta know who gets the shiny premium features.
What We DON'T Log (The Good Stuff)
You know the competitors we're talking about. They claim to be "optimization" tools, but they’re basically data-hungry monsters. We refuse to be like that.
All core operations happen locally on your machine. Your personal files? Don't care. Your browser history? Not our business. Your installed apps list for ad targeting? Why would we want that? Everything stays on your PC.
What is Anonymized Telemetry?
Not everyone is hyper-focused on privacy, but since you're reading this, you clearly are. Respect. For those who want extra peace of mind, we built a "Hide My Tracks" toggle for our Pro users.
Once you turn on Anonymize Telemetry in your settings:
- We can no longer see your PC name or username.
- We mask your GPU and RAM details (we only keep basic CPU architecture for stability fixes).
- Your IP address is pinged much less frequently.
To be entirely transparent: This feature doesn't anonymize your account username or Pro status, because we still need to enforce device limits (so one Pro license isn't shared with the entire internet). But even though we know who you are, we can no longer link your specific PC hardware to your profile.
(And hey, if you're ultra-paranoid, you can use a firewall to block TuneUP from the internet entirely. We don't recommend it because you'll miss critical security updates, but the option is yours!)
How Long Do We Keep This Data?
- Website Data: Your email and password stay as long as your account exists. Standard web traffic logs expire within a year.
- App Data: We operate on a rolling 180-day retention policy. If you stop using TuneUP, your data completely vanishes from our servers after 180 days. If you keep using it, fresh logs refresh the cycle. So no, we don't keep your data "forever"—just a moving 180-day window to keep our infrastructure lean.
Can You Request Data Deletion?
Absolutely. We aren't an advertising corporation like Google or a legacy data giant. We don't want your data sitting on our servers indefinitely anyway.
Drop us an email, and we will wipe your data within 30 days. Just keep in mind: if you keep using the app after a data wipe, it will start generating fresh, basic usage logs again to keep the service running.

And that’s pretty much it! Thanks for reading. Share this on Reddit so people stop blaming us for the mistakes of legacy "cleaner" corporations. Until next time, stay clean!
