What is the difference between TuneUP Free and TuneUP Pro?
TuneUP operates on a freemium model. The app itself is completely free for everyone to download and use, but unlocking our deepest optimization and maintenance tools requires a Pro (paid) account.
While features may evolve over time, here is the complete breakdown of what is included in TuneUP Pro:
Cleaning (Manual Mode)
Both AI Mode (which safely automates junk and cache file removal) and basic Manual Mode are 100% free. However, switching to Manual Mode opens up these advanced, heavy-hitting Pro features:
- Advanced Cleaning: Scans your entire disk for deeply hidden garbage rather than just sweeping predictable, static system folders.
- NVIDIA or AMD Cache: Automatically clears out bloated GPU shader caches to boost gaming stability and overall frame rate performance.
- Hibernation File Cleaner: Safely wipes redundant Windows hibernation files to reclaim massive chunks of storage without deactivating the feature itself.
- Aggressive Mode: Runs an intensive secondary sweep over your selected cleaning options using elevated system privileges to ensure nothing gets left behind.
Optimization
While legacy giants just clean temporary files, TuneUP Pro lets you take control of your live operating system with advanced system tweaks:
- Disable Web Search: Removes annoying Bing Search results from your native Windows Search bar. Your PC will continue to search your local files, but it stops pinging the internet.
- Disable Location Tracking: Completely cuts off background location tracking features that constantly send your GPS coordinates and network info (like IP addresses) to Microsoft.
- Disable AI Slop: Safely toggles off baked-in, resource-heavy Windows AI features like Copilot and Recall. You can still use AI in your preferred web browser, but your OS will stop wasting CPU cycles on them.
- Wi-Fi Sense: Disables automatic open hotspot scanning, which drains battery life and sends localized telemetry about nearby networks back to servers.
- Speed Up File Explorer: Allows TuneUP to handle Explorer caches instead of letting Windows mismanage them. Files, folders, and thumbnails will populate significantly faster.
- Storage Sense Override: Disables the native, automated Windows cleaning routine that triggers when your drive is near full. This native routine can be risky, as it deletes files in the background without explicitly asking for your permission.
- File History Control: Turns off your local recent files and clipboard history to protect your daily privacy.
- Service Optimization: Automatically manages background Windows services, opening or closing them instantly based on your real-time usage. This keeps your background process count and RAM footprint lower than anyone else's.
- File Explorer Optimization: Permanently strips away the clunky "Home" and "Gallery" sections from File Explorer, maximizing navigation speed.
System Repair
- Cloud-Based Repair: If our local Quick Fix engine encounters a severely corrupted file it can't fix, this tool reaches directly into Microsoft’s official servers to download fresh, clean copies and repair your OS structure.
- Disk Optimization: Scans traditional HDDs for bad sectors to prevent data loss. If you use an SSD, it dispatches smart TRIM commands and checks component firmware health. If your rig uses both, it optimizes both simultaneously.
Toolbox
- Hardware Benchmark: Pushes your hardware components to their absolute limits to test stability and measure your system's raw performance.
- Advanced Uninstaller: Displays your complete list of installed applications and removes them with zero leftover directories or registry entries. If an app is corrupted or lacks a built-in uninstaller, you can deploy Force Delete—an aggressive routine that forcefully evicts stubborn programs (use with caution!). It also supports bulk selections.
- Secure Shredder: Uses advanced overwriting techniques to permanently destroy sensitive files or folders. Standard operating systems don't actually erase data when you empty the Recycle Bin, but Secure Shredder ensures it's gone for good. You can select your destruction level: Level 1 is standard, Level 3 is agency-recommended, and Level 7 is practically paranormal.
- File Finder: Set a specific file size threshold (e.g., 5GB+), and this tool will instantly track down every massive file eating up your storage space.
Software Update
Scans your system for outdated software and coordinates updates using massive open-source repositories. You can easily update a single app or patch everything simultaneously with a single click.
